The event brings together athletes and officials from 45 countries and regions across 43 sports and 469 medal events.

While the sporting competition is attracting attention through medals and records, the scale of the Games also highlights another side of the event:The consultants, engineers, project managers, hospitality specialists, technology providers and other professional teams working behind the scenes.

The Games are being held mainly in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, with some competitions taking place in other Japanese locations, including Tokyo and Osaka.

This means that the event requires coordination across venues, transportation, accommodation, catering, technology, infrastructure and public services.

What Sports Are Being Played?Aichi-Nagoya 2026 features 43 sports, 71 disciplines and 469 medal events. The programme includes athletics, swimming, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, football, gymnastics, hockey, shooting, table tennis, tennis, wrestling and weightlifting, among many others.

The Games also include newer sports. Mixed martial arts (MMA), padel, surfing, virtual taekwondo and teqball are among the additions to this edition, while esports and breaking remain part of the programme.

The wide programme creates a complex operating environment. Different sports require different venues, equipment, technical officials, transportation arrangements, security requirements and athlete services. This is where professional expertise in project management, infrastructure, logistics, technology and operations becomes important.

Four Days of Major Sporting Action

Four Days of Major Sporting ActionThe first four days of the official Games period have already produced several significant sporting moments.

Japan won the first gold medal of Aichi-Nagoya 2026 when Takumi Hojo won the men's individual triathlon on September 20. The result gave the host nation an early gold on home soil.

Swimming has also been one of the early highlights. China's 13-year-old Yu Zidi won the women's 200m butterfly and later added another gold in the women's 200m individual medley. Her 2:06.10 in the individual medley also set an Asian Games record. China's Pan Zhanle successfully defended his men's 100m freestyle title.

India's early medal campaign featured strong performances in shooting. Elavenil Valarivan won silver in the women's 10m air rifle individual event, while Himanshu Dhillon won silver in the men's individual event. India also won team silver medals in both the women's and men's 10m air rifle competitions. Rudrankksh Patil added a bronze in the men's individual event.

India also secured a bronze through Suchika Tariyal in women's traditional 60kg MMA, giving the country its first Asian Games MMA medal as the sport made its debut.

Beyond the medal events, India recorded wins in sports including kabaddi, hockey, table tennis and boxing during the opening days.
