Most often the personal interview process lasts for an hour and it is very difficult to assess whether the claims made by the candidate are fully true. Research has established various types of Resume falsifications:· Resumes and job applications that contain falsifications 53 percent· College students surveyed who would lie on a resume to get a job they want 70 percent Resumes that are misleading 78 percent · Resumes that state fraudulent degrees 21 percent· Show altered employment dates 29 percent · Have inflated salary claims 40 percent· Have inaccurate job descriptions 33 percent· Give falsified references 27 percent · *These numbers were gathered by Accu-Screen, Inc., ADP, and published by The Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM).It has, therefore, become imperative for organisations to depend on an independent verification/background check of the candidate's background.Being a practising HR professional over the last more than 30 years, I have gone through some of the most difficult hiring mistakes not because you misjudged the competence of the candidate but because I could never discover some of the hidden stories in their career. Every candidate who comes for an interview presents his best self and always has a glorious story to tell. What he/she does not reveal is the dark sides of the career.
