Global design, engineering and consultancy firm Arcadis has expanded its collaboration with Autodesk to accelerate the use of artificial intelligence (AI), connected data and digital workflows across the built and natural environment.
The collaboration brings together Arcadis' expertise in design, engineering, sustainability and project delivery with Autodesk's Design and Make platform and Autodesk AI.
The expanded relationship is intended to help Arcadis integrate its own knowledge, standards and client experience into digital workflows where project decisions are made.
The companies are also working on applications that combine AI, sensor data and predictive modelling to support more informed decisions across complex projects.
The collaboration is particularly relevant to Arcadis' consulting and professional services model because the company is using technology alongside its existing engineering and industry expertise rather than treating AI as a standalone capability.
One example is See Through Walls, a joint project that uses AI, sensor data and predictive modelling to assess conditions hidden inside existing buildings. The approach is designed to support decisions around material reuse, circularity and decarbonisation.
Arcadis is also connecting its own Model Context Protocol (MCP) capabilities with Autodesk Assistant. This allows Arcadis' knowledge, standards and guidance to be incorporated into AI-powered workflows while allowing the company to retain ownership of what it develops.
“Our clients choose Arcadis because of the knowledge, judgment and experience of our people. That expertise remains at the heart of how we create value. Working with Autodesk, we are bringing that knowledge directly into the workflows where our teams design and decide.” — Heather Polinsky, CEO, Arcadis.
The statement highlights how Arcadis is positioning AI as a tool that works alongside its consultants, engineers and other specialists. According to the company, the objective is to allow teams to work with greater speed, accuracy and consistency while retaining human review and professional judgement.
The expanded collaboration is also intended to make AI and digital delivery more practical for clients working on complex projects. Arcadis says its teams provide the asset knowledge, sector expertise, client standards and professional judgement needed to apply digital tools to real-world challenges.
Autodesk's platform provides the digital environment in which AI outputs can be assessed against project data and the requirements of individual designs. The companies say this combination can support better-informed decisions, improve quality and resilience, reduce delivery risk and increase productivity.
Autodesk President and CEO Andrew Anagnost also described the importance of combining AI with industry knowledge.
“AI creates the most value when grounded in deep industry expertise, trusted data, and real-world context. That's how AI becomes project intelligence, helping people make better decisions and deliver better outcomes for clients.” — Andrew Anagnost, President and CEO, Autodesk.
Arcadis said existing AI and automation initiatives across North America and Europe are already producing measurable efficiencies. In one example cited in the announcement, automation reduced quality-review time from five days to approximately half a day.
For Arcadis, the expanded Autodesk relationship forms part of its wider digital strategy, which brings together engineering specialists, digital teams, data experts and technology partners. The company says this approach is intended to create repeatable and scalable solutions for clients across sectors and geographies.
The September 28 announcement therefore represents an expansion of an existing technology partnership, with Arcadis seeking to combine consulting expertise, engineering knowledge, AI, connected data and digital workflows to support client project delivery.
