The Budget Session of Parliament is set to gather momentum on Tuesday, with both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha scheduled to hold a general discussion on the Union Budget for 2026–27. After earlier disruptions, lawmakers are expected to resume deliberations on key financial and policy matters outlined in the Budget.

In the Rajya Sabha, the debate on the Union Budget will continue, focusing on fiscal priorities, economic growth, and sector-specific allocations proposed by the government. Members are likely to scrutinise policy directions and raise concerns related to inflation, employment, and public spending.

The Lok Sabha is also expected to begin its general discussion on the Budget today, following a stalemate between the opposition and ruling parties that had earlier stalled proceedings. According to the official List of Business, several parliamentary reports will be tabled in the Lower House. Members of Parliament Azad Kirti Jha and Robert Bruce C are scheduled to present reports of the Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilisers.

Additionally, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada will make a statement on the status of implementation of recommendations contained in the 188th report of the Standing Committee on Commerce. The report focuses on developing a comprehensive strategy to identify major products and countries in order to maximise exports and reduce import dependence.

In the Upper House, Rajya Sabha members Rwngwra Narzary and Naresh Bansal will lay on the table reports of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilisers for the year 2025–26. Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi is also slated to present a statement on the action taken by the government on observations and recommendations of the Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, particularly concerning the review of India’s crude oil import policy.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had presented her ninth consecutive Union Budget on February 1, outlining the government’s economic roadmap for the coming financial year.
