The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) added a record 20.06 lakh net members in May 2025—its highest-ever monthly increase since payroll data tracking began in April 2018. This marks a 4.79% rise from April 2025 and a 2.84% increase compared to May 2024.

Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya credited the growth to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reforms focused on youth, workers, and ease of doing business. “This milestone reflects our commitment to creating a strong and inclusive labour ecosystem for a developed India,” he said.

Youth and Women Lead the Way
Out of 9.42 lakh new members who joined EPFO in May, nearly 60% were aged 18–25, showing rising formal employment among young first-time job seekers. Women’s participation also grew, with 2.62 lakh new female subscribers and a total net addition of 4.25 lakh women—up over 15% from last year.

More Workers Returning to the Fold
About 16.11 lakh people rejoined EPFO after previous exits, showing more job mobility while continuing social security coverage.

Top Performing States
Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana made up nearly 60% of the new payroll additions. Maharashtra alone contributed over 20%.
