Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-day visit to Johannesburg, South Africa, from November 21 to 23 to participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Wednesday. This year’s summit carries particular significance as it represents the fourth consecutive meeting hosted within the Global South, highlighting the region’s expanding role in shaping international economic and governance agendas.

Throughout the summit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to present India’s views and policy priorities across three crucial sessions. The first session, themed Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth, will address strategies for building resilient global economies. Discussions will center on strengthening trade, enhancing development financing, and tackling the mounting challenges posed by global debt vulnerabilities.

The second session, titled A Resilient World, will focus on collective efforts to reduce disaster risks and confront the escalating impact of climate change. Leaders will deliberate on promoting just and equitable energy transitions and on strengthening global food systems to ensure long-term sustainability and security.

In the third session, A Fair and Just Future for All, the spotlight will be on defining frameworks for responsible management of critical minerals, expanding opportunities for decent work, and guiding the ethical use of artificial intelligence in global development.

Beyond the main agenda, Prime Minister Modi is expected to engage in multiple bilateral meetings with heads of state and government on the sidelines of the summit. These discussions will aim to deepen strategic partnerships and advance India’s diplomatic outreach. Additionally, he will take part in the India–Brazil–South Africa (IBSA) Leaders’ Meeting, convened by South Africa, which remains an important platform for trilateral cooperation among the three major democracies of the Global South.

Modi’s participation underscores India’s continued commitment to contributing actively to global decision-making and fostering inclusive multilateralism.
