Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth over ₹5,400 crore in Gujarat, covering sectors like railways, roads, electricity, housing, and urban infrastructure. The visit marks a significant boost to the state’s growth and connectivity.
A major focus was on the railway sector, with over ₹1,400 crore dedicated to various upgrades. Key projects include the doubling of the 65 km Mahesana–Palanpur rail line (₹530 crore), gauge conversion of the 37 km Kalol–Kadi–Katosan line, and development of the 40 km Bichraji–Ranju section (₹860 crore). These initiatives aim to improve passenger convenience, ease freight movement, and strengthen North Gujarat’s economic links.
PM Modi flagged off a new passenger train between Katosan Road and Sabarmati, enhancing access to local markets and religious sites. A car-loaded freight train was also launched from Bichraji to boost industrial connectivity and generate employment.
In road infrastructure, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Viramgam–Khudad–Rampura Road widening project and laid the foundation stone for a six-lane underpass on the Ahmedabad–Mahesana–Palanpur route and a railway overbridge on the Ahmedabad–Viramgam route, aimed at reducing traffic congestion and supporting trade.
In the power sector, distribution projects worth over ₹1,000 crore were launched under UGVCL in Ahmedabad, Mahesana, and Gandhinagar. These aim to reduce power losses and outages, especially during adverse weather.
Urban development also saw progress with the inauguration of a slum rehabilitation project at Ramapir No Tekri, Ahmedabad, under PM Awas Yojana (Urban), along with plans to upgrade water and sewerage systems and expand the Sardar Patel Ring Road. PM Modi also inaugurated a new stamps and registration building in Ahmedabad West and a state-level data storage centre in Gandhinagar, further boosting civic services and digital governance in the state.
