| | MAY 20199Consultants ReviewThe next five years are crucial for India as it leaps forward into a more advanced worldA Application R Real time NNeed based Laborious are there aspects in the learning frame-work where precious manhours are lost due to repeti-tive, manual intensive work such as training metrics re-porting, data collection, analyses, administrative tasks, etc.? Typically, these are also areas where quality must be top notch and manual errors can have impact on the efficacy of learning. These are therefore the best places to automate, and to leverage technology tools created by experts who specialize in these areas. Empathy are there aspects of the learning pro-grams where human empathy, complexity of situations and therefore resultant interpretations are involved? E.g. mentoring on a life skill, coaching on a problem situation, counseling for support, etc? These are areas that require skillful human observation, inferences based on direct experience and historical knowledge, mature analyses and effective solutioning where each individual situ-ation may warrant a highly customized supportive solu-tion. A deep and strong human connect is therefore very important in such areas while technology can enable with facts and data, it cannot replace the human element which is at the core of solutioning. Application of Skillsand Knowledge this is an excel-lent area where human intervention and learning tech-nology can seamlessly partner with each other. E.g. while e-communication, baselining with e-learning courses and assessing skills (based on applicable competencies) with timely reporting can be driven by technology, the actual on-the-job observation and providing tailored constructive feedback for course correction is best done via expert monitoring. Yet another area where technol-ogy adds a lot of value is in the area of simulations where real time job environments can be created within a safe learning environment for the learners to experience the actual job or role first hand, effectively moderated by an expert. Be it via Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality, there have been several breakthroughs in the science of simulations. Real Time Keeping the learning environment real-time and constantly relevant is key to success. Learn-ing specialists must themselves be abreast of the latest trends in content, methodologies as well as new-age learning to maximize the impact of all learning process-es and to ensure ROI to the organization. On the human side, self-initiative plays a vital role here. On the technol-ogy side, using tools to constantly update information, and refresh existing data is important. Need Analysis Learning specialists must ensure they constantly review their learner base and under-stand how the learners prefer to learn. Given the various preferred learning styles per Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory, coupled with highly diverse work-forcesincluding multi-generation, multi-geography and a fast growing gig economy across industries, the learn-ing eco-system must respect the learners' unique learn-ing preferences and therefore offer solutions through a blend of different styles some more technology centric, others more in-person centric. At the end of the day, every learning team's key goals are to provide proactive and timely learning interven-tions to business, upskilling the workforce to make it future-ready, and relentlessly focusing on delivering faster, better and smarter learning solutions. By blend-ing the ancient Gurukul system of `empathetic and in-spiring human connect' with the `scale and speed' of new-age learning technology, these goals can be effectively achieved.
