Artificial intelligence consultancy Klarus has appointed consulting veteran Stephen Haw to lead its newly established Energy & Utilities practice, expanding its services across energy retail, electricity networks and water.
The appointment strengthens the company's focus on helping businesses use artificial intelligence (AI), data and technology to address operational and commercial challenges.
Stephen Haw joins Klarus with more than 25 years of experience in the energy and utilities sector. Before joining the consultancy, he served as Senior Partner for Energy and Utilities at EY in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
His professional background also includes serving as Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting and spending more than a decade at Baringa, where he held the position of Partner for Energy and Utilities. He began his career as a civil engineer at Balfour Beatty.
At Klarus, Haw will lead the development of the new practice, working with energy retailers, network operators and water companies. His responsibilities include helping organisations improve business performance through technology, data and AI-led transformation.
Headquartered in London, Klarus is a technology consultancy focused on artificial intelligence, data, enterprise applications and cybersecurity. The company was launched in 2026 under the leadership of CEO Frank O'Dea, who previously held senior positions at Accenture and EY.
The Energy & Utilities practice extends Klarus's consulting services into a sector facing significant operational and financial pressures. Energy retailers are dealing with customer debt, affordability concerns and narrow profit margins. Meanwhile, electricity network operators and water companies are preparing for major infrastructure investment programmes.
These developments are increasing demand for consulting support that connects technology investments with measurable business outcomes. Utilities also need to ensure that their use of AI and data is transparent, responsible and capable of meeting regulatory requirements.
"Stephen’s appointment is an important step in our growth as a business and expansion into energy and utilities. He brings deep sector expertise, with an international perspective, and has built a strong reputation for leading from the front, driving growth and delivering results for clients." - Frank O’Dea, CEO of Klarus
O'Dea added that Haw would work with clients to use technology, data and AI to move beyond experimentation and deliver tangible business value.
Through the new practice, Klarus aims to combine experienced industry advisers with technology-driven implementation capabilities. Haw's appointment reflects the company's approach of bringing senior sector specialists closer to client decision-making and transformation programmes.
The expansion also highlights how consulting firms are developing specialised practices to address the changing requirements of regulated industries. As energy and water companies face increasing investment demands and digital transformation pressures, expertise in AI, data and sector operations is becoming an important part of their consulting needs.
